Government Responds to PTI’s Charter of Demands, Rejects Judicial Commission Proposal

The government’s negotiating committee has officially responded to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Charter of Demands, handing over the response to Speaker of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq. In the response, the government stated that it has not rejected the proposal for a judicial commission, although it outlined conditions under which such a commission could be formed.
According to media reports, the committee, led by Speaker Sadiq, has suggested granting the current negotiation team the status of a special or parliamentary committee. The government’s response also highlights the legal and constitutional issues surrounding the judicial commission, particularly in relation to the ongoing cases from May 9.
The government’s reply also requests PTI to provide a list of missing persons, referencing the ongoing legal matters involving PTI leaders, including Chairman Imran Khan, and the release of other detained party members. The response indicates that there have been no objections to the legal or judicial decisions regarding the release or bail of these individuals.
Reports suggest that the response, which also includes references to the legal proceedings regarding PTI’s leadership, will not be made public for now. The response will only be presented to the committee if PTI returns to negotiations.
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has emphasized that the fate of the negotiations will depend on both the government’s allies and the opposition. Meanwhile, the government seeks to conclude the negotiations committee by January 31, while the Speaker prefers to continue the committee’s work.
On the other hand, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan has accused the government of hindering the negotiations process. He stated that over a month has passed with no progress in talks and suggested that certain individuals do not want a political solution to the issue.
