According to a report by a reputable national newspaper, the Karachi Tools, Dies, and Moulds Centre and the National Productivity Organization are among the agencies identified for shutdown.
In a bid to reduce the federal government’s size and expenditures, various proposals are under consideration, including closures, privatization, and mergers of institutions. Sources indicate that the Karachi Tools, Dies, and Moulds Centre and the National Productivity Organization are on the list for potential closure. Additionally, proposals are also being prepared for shutting down the Pakistan Industrial Technical Assistance Centre and the Technology Upgradation and Skill Development Company. There are discussions on both privatizing and possibly terminating the Utility Stores Corporation.
The newspaper reports that the Prime Minister has tasked the Ministry of Industry and Production with evaluating the closure of the National Fertilizer Corporation and the National Fertilizer Marketing Limited. The drafted proposals will be presented to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and following his approval, they will be submitted for cabinet endorsement. Notably, the right-sizing committee, led by the Minister of Finance, is working on reforms within the government’s administrative structure.
