Islamabad: The government is gearing up to deliver another blow to the public already reeling from inflation, by potentially increasing electricity prices. There is a possibility of a hike by Rs. 2.10 per unit in electricity rates.
Consumers of state-run distribution companies are already facing increased costs for electricity, and now there is a proposal to further raise rates by Rs. 2.10 per unit for a month. Central Power Purchasing Agency has submitted a request to NEPRA in this regard.
The CPPA has sought monthly adjustment in prices citing fluctuations in fuel costs, a request that NEPRA will consider on July 31st. If approved, the move could lead to a significant increase in electricity bills, adding to the financial burden on consumers.
