Government Blocks Protest Route, Hafiz Na’eem Warns of Movement

Karachi: Hafiz Na’eem Rahman, the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, has warned that if the government blocks the path of protests, it will fall, and a movement will begin. Addressing a gathering in Karachi, he alleged that IPPs have pocketed billions through shady deals, refusing to honor agreements made over 25 years.
“We do not accept the IPP contracts; new agreements must be made,” he stated. “It is time for people to step out of their homes for justice. This isn’t just about electricity bills; it’s an atomic bomb of injustice. No one will provide relief; the public must stand up.”
Highlighting grievances against K-Electric, he emphasized, “People raise an outcry over electricity bills. They are selling wives’, sisters’, and daughters’ jewelry to pay bills. Incidents like the altercation between two brothers in Gujranwala and cries of traders’ brothers are now commonplace.”
“All parties support the electricity mafia, except Jamaat-e-Islami,” he alleged. “It’s time for political struggle. We are billed for electricity we haven’t even used, under the pretext of load shedding. What kind of contract can’t be terminated now? Such agreements benefit a few at the expense of many.”
He further declared plans for a sit-in in Islamabad on July 26, aiming to secure relief for the people. “If they don’t end unjust taxes, the sit-in won’t stop. This protest will spread nationwide.”
The situation is tense as political and public dissatisfaction with electricity pricing and policies escalates.
