Islamabad:The federal cabinet has approved an increase in electricity tariffs for commercial, agricultural, and large consumers, effective immediately. As per the decision, the per unit electricity tariff for commercial consumers will rise to Rs. 77.15.
In a parallel move, the government has granted approval to maintain the basic tariff for industrial consumers, notifying the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) accordingly.
According to media reports, the approved revisions include:
– A basic tariff increase of Rs. 8.04 per unit for commercial consumers, resulting in a new tariff of Rs. 77.15 per unit, effective from July.
– An increase of Rs. 6.62 per unit in the basic tariff for agricultural consumers, setting the new tariff at Rs. 46.83 per unit from July.
– Approval for a Rs. 6.98 per unit increase in the general services tariff, resulting in a new tariff of Rs. 61.03 per unit for general services from July.
– An increase of Rs. 5.51 per unit in the basic tariff for large consumers, with the new tariff reaching Rs. 59.96 per unit from July.
These decisions aim to adjust tariffs in accordance with current economic conditions and operational costs, ensuring sustainable electricity supply across sectors while reflecting the true cost of electricity production and distribution.
