Government Acknowledges Failure to Fulfill Commitment of Imran Khan Meeting

Islamabad:The spokesperson for the government’s negotiating committee, **Senator Irfan Siddiqui**, has acknowledged that the government failed to fulfill its commitment to arrange a meeting between the **Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)** negotiating committee and former Prime Minister **Imran Khan**.

In his statement, Irfan Siddiqui emphasized the importance of honoring promises made by the government to maintain credibility. He stated, *”When we make a promise, it should be fulfilled so that when we ask others to honor their commitments, our words carry weight.”*

He acknowledged that the government had committed to arranging a meeting between the PTI committee and Imran Khan, but noted that no member of the committee had been directly responsible for facilitating the meeting. However, he added that the process had become complicated due to multiple conditions being attached to the meeting, which made it difficult to move forward.

Siddiqui also pointed out that the PTI had been preparing a list of demands for the past **40 days** and was pressing the government to respond within a matter of hours, threatening that the talks would end if no response was given.

Despite these challenges, the government reiterated its stance during the second round of talks with PTI, stating, *”We have no demands of our own,”* but stressed that this did not mean that the government would not make any requests in the future.

Siddiqui further expressed that the government aimed to establish a clear understanding regarding the procedure for any political party coming to Islamabad in the future, ensuring there was a defined framework for such engagements.

He also questioned whether the recent tweet from Imran Khan, in which the PTI leader made certain claims, was conducive to creating a favorable environment for ongoing negotiations.
