Government Accepts Sugar Price at Rs. 159 per Kg Despite Assurances of Rs. 140 Ex-Mill Price

Islamabad:The government, which had assured the sugar mills of an ex-mill price of Rs. 140 per kilogram, has agreed to buy sugar at an ex-mill price of Rs. 159 per kg.

The price of sugar started rising suddenly before Ramadan, prompting the Prime Minister to take notice. However, by the time the Prime Minister intervened, hoarders had already made billions in profits. Following the Prime Minister’s intervention, the price of sugar decreased by Rs. 10 per kg.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar met with sugar mill owners and after addressing their concerns, spoke to the media, stating that sugar will now be available to the general public at Rs. 164 per kg. He also mentioned that a sub-committee has been formed to further review sugar prices. Additionally, sugar is being sold at Rs. 130 per kg in 214 utility stores across the country.
