Global Population Growth: India’s Surpassing Milestone and Projected Increases for 2025

Islamabad:The world’s population continues to grow rapidly with each passing year. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, this year alone, the global population has increased by 71 million 178 thousand individuals. By 2024, India is set to become the most populous country, with a total population of 1.41 billion people.

In its latest report, the U.S. Census Bureau estimates that by January 1, 2025, the global population will reach **8,923,451,511**, representing an annual increase of **0.89%** from the previous year.

The data also indicates that during January 2025, the global average birth rate is projected to be **4.2 births per second**, while **2 deaths per second** will occur. Despite this growth, the population increase is expected to be lower than 2023, when the world population increased by **75 million** people.

As of July 2024, India remains the most populous country, with a population of **1.41 billion** people, surpassing China. China’s population, recorded at **1.408 billion**, is now the second largest in the world.

The **United States** ranks third in terms of population, with a recorded population of **340 million** in July 2024. **Indonesia** follows closely in fourth place, with a population of **281 million**. **Pakistan** ranks fifth with an estimated population of **252 million** in July 2024.

This ongoing growth presents significant demographic shifts, particularly with India surpassing China in population, and emphasizes the growing importance of managing resources and policies in response to the expanding global population.
