Quetta:Balochistan has witnessed a significant rise in petroleum prices, with rates soaring by 30 to 50 rupees per liter, following protests and sit-ins by the Baloch Unity Committee on the Iran-Taftan Road. Reports indicate that Iranian petrol supplies into Balochistan have been halted for the past week due to ongoing demonstrations.
The suspension of Iranian fuel imports has directly impacted petroleum product prices across provincial capital Quetta and surrounding districts, where prices have escalated sharply. In various parts of Quetta city, petrol is being sold at prices ranging from 230 to 260 rupees per liter, marking a steep increase from the previous 190 rupees per liter.
The Baloch Unity Committee’s protests are a response to longstanding grievances and demands for better economic conditions and rights for the Baloch people. The situation remains tense as stakeholders assess the economic implications of the fuel supply disruption amidst ongoing protests.
