Fuel Shortages Hit Balochistan as Protests and Road Closures Disrupt Supply Chains
Balochistan:ongoing protests and road blockades by the Baloch Ittehad Committee in Gwadar have led to severe disruptions in fuel supply and availability across the province. The closure of key national highways due to these demonstrations, along with the arrest of protestors and the registration of cases against them, has significantly impacted the distribution of essential goods, including food items and petrol.
In Quetta and other parts of the province, petrol shortages have become acute. Many petrol stations in Quetta have run out of fuel, and the blockage of routes from Iran to Makran has halted the supply of Iranian petrol, leading to the closure of small petrol stations that relied on this source. As a result, significant queues have formed at the remaining stations that still have petrol, and where it is available, prices have surged.
The shortage has been particularly pronounced in districts such as Duki and Loralai, where the price of Iranian petrol has skyrocketed to 550 rupees per liter. Local fuel sellers and consumers are feeling the pinch as the supply constraints continue to cause widespread inconvenience.
According to Qayamuddin Agha, a spokesperson for the Balochistan Petroleum Association, the situation is expected to improve as the petrol supply is being gradually restored. However, the impact of the ongoing protests and road closures is still being felt across the province, highlighting the need for urgent resolution of the issues at hand.
