Islamabad: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has approached the Supreme Court against Independent Power Producers (IPPs). In a petition filed with the court, FPCCI has requested a forensic audit of the IPPs, seeking an order to recover excess profits granted to them.
The petitioner has also asked the court to amend the contracts with IPPs to link payments to the supply of electricity and to declare the 1994, 2002, and 2015 policies related to IPPs as void. Additionally, FPCCI has requested a declaration that it is the government’s responsibility to provide affordable electricity to citizens and that the government should not profit from such a basic necessity.
This development follows a similar petition filed yesterday by Asad Manzoor Butt, President of the Lahore High Court Bar, who sought to declare the 1994 Power Generation Policy unconstitutional.
