Former Supreme Court Justice Mushir Alam Apologizes for Declining Adhoc Judgeship
Islamabad:Former Supreme Court Justice Mushir Alam has formally apologized for withdrawing his acceptance of an adhoc judgeship amidst a negative social media campaign. This decision came after Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa had called for a Judicial Commission session on July 19, where discussions were scheduled to consider four nominees for adhoc judgeship.
According to media reports, Justice Mushir Alam expressed deep disappointment over the social media campaign that ensued following his nomination as an adhoc judge. In a letter addressed to the Judicial Commission, he remarked, “Allah has honored me more than my stature; however, I regret to decline serving as an adhoc judge under the current circumstances.” He further added that he is currently engaged in productive activities and wishes to remain so.
Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa had proposed the nominations of retired Justice Mushir Alam, retired Justice Maqbool Baqar, retired Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel, and retired Justice Sardar Tariq Masood for consideration as adhoc judges.
The developments have sparked discussions within legal circles regarding the selection process and the impact of social media on judicial appointments.
