Former President of Supreme Court Bar Association Criticizes Price Hikes by Traders

Quetta:Former President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Ali Ahmed Kurd, has sharply criticized the current situation in Pakistan, accusing traders and businessmen of arbitrarily setting prices. In his statement, Kurd highlighted exorbitant demands from various sectors, including doctors, lawyers, and even milk vendors asking for Rs. 300 per kilogram. He condemned the manipulation of bread prices by bakers, stressing that such practices exploit the poor while enriching the few.

Kurd pointedly singled out electricity prices, describing them as absurdly high and reflective of a systemic crisis. He lamented that ordinary citizens now feel electricity surges through their fingers when touching switches, highlighting the stark contrast between the affluent and the impoverished in society.

Moreover, Kurd drew attention to the swelling ranks of unemployed youth visible on the streets, emphasizing that over 110 million people in Pakistan are not in poverty but rather living in destitution. He called for urgent adherence to constitutional rights and warned against ignoring the plight of those struggling to feed their families.

In conclusion, he urged authorities to fulfill their obligations to provide basic rights, stressing that failure to do so would push people towards alternative and potentially destabilizing actions.
