Islamabad:Anwarul Haq Kakar, former Advisor to the Prime Minister, has emphasized that the Independent Power Producer (IPP) issue, affecting 240 million people including industry, is under discussion in the Senate. He stated that they will fight and win this battle for the rights of the people.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Senator Anwarul Haq Kakar clarified, “We will not talk about victimization, but in the future, we will ensure cheaper electricity.” Despite widespread disappointment on social media, he expressed optimism about the country’s bright future.
Senator Kakar stressed the need to address the IPP issue through dialogue rather than scoring political points. He emphasized that the country cannot sustain itself with such expensive electricity and called for a resolution to the matter. “The business community has already made a decision,” he added.
Former Commerce Minister Gohar Ejaz remarked that IPPs are exploiting public negligence by government institutions. “The entire Pakistan is saying with one voice that people are affected by IPPs. We must find a way to terminate IPP contracts,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, Patron-in-Chief of FPCCI, Atif Ikram Sheikh, disclosed that they are approaching the courts regarding the IPP issue. He insisted that the current tariff cannot sustain industries.
