Former Pakistani Ambassador to the UN, Maleeha Lodhi, Says U.S. Sanctions Will Have Zero Impact on Pakistan
IslamabadضFormer **Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations**, **Maleeha Lodhi**, stated that the recent U.S. sanctions on Pakistan will have **no impact** on the country, describing them as **”nothing new”** and **ineffective**.
In a discussion on **Geo News’ program “Geo Pakistan”**, Maleeha Lodhi emphasized that these sanctions are not a new development for Pakistan, noting that the U.S. had imposed similar restrictions when Pakistan began its **nuclear program**. She pointed out that despite the U.S. imposing sanctions on Pakistan, **India** has never faced similar measures, even though its **missile program** is far more advanced.
Lodhi also criticized the **U.S. policy**, calling it discriminatory. According to her, the **U.S. sanctions** will have **”zero”** effect on Pakistan, as the country has dealt with such restrictions in the past and has continued to make progress despite them.
She further mentioned that **Pakistan** is no longer a priority in **U.S. foreign policy**, especially with the **Trump administration** focusing more on **China** and **Afghanistan**. She noted that since the **U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan**, **Pakistani-American relations** have been at a crossroads.
On the issue of **Pakistan’s nuclear program**, Lodhi remarked that **political point-scoring** based on Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities is unacceptable. She added that no Pakistani could support **discriminatory treatment** of Pakistan by the U.S.
Maleeha Lodhi’s comments shed light on the ongoing tensions between Pakistan and the U.S. and suggest that despite challenges, Pakistan will continue to move forward with its national interests, undeterred by foreign pressures or sanctions.
