Islamabad: Former federal minister Gohar Ijaz has revealed that despite four power plants failing to generate electricity, IPPI (Independent Power Producers) continue to receive a staggering monthly payment of Rs. 15 billion. Ijaz disclosed that from January to March 2024 alone, IPPIs have been paid Rs. 150 billion. He pointed out that half of these IPPIs are operating at less than 10% capacity, yet they draw a monthly sum of Rs. 100 billion without producing any electricity.
Ijaz emphasized that the earnings of 40 families are involved in capital payments related to these power plants, demanding that all stakeholders in Nepra be represented fairly. He urged the government not to conduct business at the expense of the public and to ensure consumers are not exploited.
