Former Deputy Superintendent of Adiala Jail, Muhammad Akram, Faces Increased Troubles Amidst Allegations
Rawalpindi: Former Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram, who vanished under mysterious circumstances, is now facing intensified challenges. The former official has been issued a show-cause notice for serious negligence in his duties, following allegations of providing alleged special facilities to the founder of PTI during his incarceration.
According to sources, the Punjab Home Department had already initiated an inquiry into the death of a mentally ill inmate and injuries sustained by two others during Akram’s tenure at Adiala Jail. The inquiry’s findings have led to the issuance of a show-cause notice for alleged negligence during his service.
Furthermore, Muhammad Akram is also facing accusations of providing alleged “facilities” to the founder of PTI. He is reportedly involved in a case concerning his alleged abduction from the official residence at the jail colony on August 14.
It is noteworthy that the departmental action against the former Deputy Superintendent began on February 29 of this year, following the murder of an inmate and injuries to two others in the mental ward of Adiala Jail.
Inmate Muhammad Ihsan used a water cup to remove a brick from the wall of Cell No. 8 and attacked sleeping fellow inmates, resulting in severe injuries to Ijaz Rabbani, Shiraz, and Hamad Ali. They were transferred to Islamabad’s PIMS Hospital, where Ijaz Rabbani succumbed to his injuries. IG Prisons Punjab Mian Farooq Nazir ordered an inquiry, and DIG Prisons Rawalpindi Region Rana Rauf commenced investigations. A case of murder and injuries caused by alleged inmate violence was also registered at Police Station Saddar Aam.
Sources within the jail have indicated that if Muhammad Akram’s response to the show-cause notice is unsatisfactory, he may face severe departmental penalties, including possible dismissal from service.
