Fish Harbor Employees Protest Unpaid Salaries for Seven Months in Pasni

Pasni:Employees of Pasni Fish Harbor have launched a protest against the non-payment of their salaries for the past seven months. The protest was held in front of the main office of the harbor, with workers expressing their anger and frustration over the long-delayed payments.

On Wednesday, the district chairman of the WAPDA Hydro Union, LS Pasni, Aabid Baloch, along with union officials Akhtar Hussain, Ghulam Rasool, and WAPDA Powerhouse’s Dad Karim, visited the protest camp of the Pasni Fisheries Harbor Authority (PFHA) employees. They expressed full solidarity with the workers and strongly condemned the Authority’s failure to pay wages for seven months. The union officials termed the authorities’ actions as an act of sheer injustice and oppression, urging the provincial government to immediately release the employees’ dues.

The WAPDA Hydro Union officials pointed out that out of several dozen authorities in Balochistan, only two authorities—those linked to the Makran coast—have been discriminating against their employees, cutting their salaries, and causing severe financial hardship for them. This, they said, amounts to an economic death sentence for the workers. They emphasized that, in the face of rising inflation, depriving employees of their rightful wages is inhumane and an alarming sign for both the provincial government and the concerned authorities.

The delegation assured the PFHA staff of their full support, pledging to stand by the workers in their struggle for their legitimate rights. Representatives of the PFHA staff, including Mushtaq Ahmad Qazi, Shahid Sabzal, and Rustam Ali, thanked the WAPDA Hydro Union officials for their solidarity and their visit to the protest camp.

Meanwhile, renowned social and political figures from Pasni, Ibrahim Noor Mohammad and Shaukat Jadgal, also visited the protest camp and strongly condemned the Authority’s failure to pay workers their wages. They expressed surprise at the provincial government’s inability to address the issues faced by the fish harbor and noted that the workers were bearing the brunt of the failure. They warned that the prolonged withholding of salaries had left the employees struggling to make ends meet, and unrest was growing among them.

“Employees are now deprived of their basic right to a livelihood, and their patience has worn thin. The government and concerned authorities must take immediate action to resolve this issue to avoid any unpleasant consequences,” they said. They also expressed their unwavering support for the PFHA staff in their fight for justice.

The protest continues as employees demand the immediate release of their outstanding salaries.
