Fire in Korangi Creek Dies Down After 18 Days, Gas Leakage Continues

Karachi:A fire that had been burning in the Korangi Creek area for 18 days has unexpectedly been extinguished. However, gas leakage continues to be a concern, and the surrounding area is filled with a strong odor due to the ongoing release of gas. Authorities have restricted access to the area for individuals who are not directly involved in the operations.
The fire broke out on March 29 near Korangi Crossing, at a vacant plot of a private society, during a water boring operation. Despite the fire being extinguished, the pressure of the gas seeping from the ground remains high.
The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) conducted a survey of the fire, and officials from Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and oil companies have also investigated the cause of the fire. In addition, mineral tests were conducted to analyze the situation.
Authorities are continuing their efforts to manage the gas leak and ensure public safety in the area.
