Islamabad:Federal Minister for Power, Ovais Leghari, has announced promising news of reduced electricity prices by January 2025. In a recent interview, Leghari shared that efforts are underway to generate electricity through Thar coal with the assistance of China. This initiative aims to bring down electricity costs by up to Rs. 3 per unit, potentially benefiting the economy by Rs. 300 billion.
Responding to a question, Leghari clarified that providing 200 units of free electricity is not feasible. Host Hammad Mir reminded him of Maryam Nawaz’s election promise to provide free electricity up to 200 units. Leghari responded by suggesting that if the government installs solar systems that can cater to the daily needs of 1.5 crore users and disconnects their electricity connections, then providing free electricity up to 200 units might be achievable.
The development comes as part of the government’s efforts to mitigate the economic impact of rising energy costs on consumers across Pakistan.
