Islamabad: Federal Law Minister, Azam Nazeer Tarar, has stated that he permits the appointment of additional judges as per the constitution. Speaking on a private TV program, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar mentioned that the appointment of additional judges is determined by the Judicial Commission, not the Chief Justice. “In my opinion, additional judges should be appointed. The constitution allows for the appointment of additional judges,” he added.
He further emphasized being in favor of constitutional amendments for reforms in the judicial system. Dismissing rumors of extending Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s tenure, he cited discussions on extending the service tenure of government officials due to increased pension costs worldwide. “The issue of extending the tenure of all government employees, including judicial officers, was under consideration,” he explained.
Regarding recent decisions by the Supreme Court, he highlighted a group’s strengthened stance, where 8 judges nullified provisions in specific cases. He also mentioned potential parliamentary debates on Article 6, involving PTI leaders. Addressing PTI’s stance on a no-confidence movement, he indicated that legal recourse had been sought, affirming PTI’s adherence to constitutional processes.
Azam Nazeer Tarar concluded by stating that last year’s decision not to impose restrictions on PTI was aimed at maintaining political stability.
