Islamabad:The federal government has begun the process of terminating daily wage employees as part of its rightsizing policy. A notification issued by the Establishment Division stated that employees working on daily wages would be transferred to a surplus pool by September 30, 2024, marking the start of broader workforce reduction efforts.
The notification informed various ministries and divisions that the services of daily wage employees would no longer be required after September 30. It emphasized that ministries and divisions are expected to comply with the government’s rightsizing policy by laying off these employees.
While the initiative aims to reduce costs and enhance efficiency, the government’s decision is set to impact a significant number of daily wage workers across various sectors. Concerns have been raised regarding the potential social and economic consequences of these layoffs, as many depend on these jobs for their livelihoods.
