Federal Government Decides to Take Major Action Against Imran Khan
Islamabad:The federal government has made an in-principle decision to initiate major legal action against former Prime Minister Imran Khan. A plan has been prepared to file a criminal case against him under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) following a special complaint lodged by the federal government.
Imran Khan is accused of inciting rebellion against the state and its institutions via social media. According to high-level government sources, the formal approval for initiating action against him will be sought from the federal cabinet. The Ministry of Interior has been tasked with preparing a summary for the cabinet’s consideration.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing conducted an inquiry into Imran Khan’s activities, which led to the decision to take legal action. Once the federal cabinet approves, the plan is to conduct his trial in a special Anti-Terrorism Court.
Sources indicate that the action will be taken under sections 6, 9A, and other relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, specifically related to incitement and rebellion. Additionally, under Section 196 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), federal cabinet approval is necessary for filing complaints and taking action against individuals accused of various crimes.
