Federal Government Decides Not to Procure Wheat This Year

Islamabad: The federal government has announced that it will not be procuring wheat this year. This decision was revealed in a written report submitted to the National Assembly by Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain.
According to the minister, the government’s decision stems from the need to comply with the terms of the ongoing agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He assured that the wheat production for the year 2025 will be sufficient to meet the country’s domestic needs for the 2025–26 fiscal year.
The minister further stated that any decisions regarding the import or export of wheat will be made based on market demand.
To address wheat-related policies, the Prime Minister has formed a Cabinet Committee, which will formulate the national wheat policy. In addition, a separate Cabinet Committee on Essential Commodities has been established under the Prime Minister’s leadership. This committee, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, has already convened two meetings so far.
