Federal Government Announces Public Holiday on November 9 for Iqbal Day

Islamabad: The federal government has declared November 9 a public holiday across the country to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal. The Cabinet Division issued a notification regarding the holiday.
On this day, various events and ceremonies will be held to commemorate the life and contributions of the “Shair-e-Mashriq” (Poet of the East) and the “Mufakkir-e-Pakistan” (Philosopher of Pakistan).
Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal was born on November 9, 1877, in Sialkot. After completing his early education in his hometown, he went to the UK in 1905, where he earned a degree in law, and later pursued a Ph.D. in philosophy in Germany.
Upon his return to India in 1910, Iqbal used his poetry to awaken the political and intellectual consciousness of the Muslim community. His most significant contribution as a politician was his role in formulating the idea of Pakistan, which later became the foundation for the creation of the country.
Dr. Iqbal passed away on April 21, 1938, in Lahore and was buried next to the Badshahi Mosque.
