Islamabad: Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired a federal cabinet meeting where discussions were held on a 6-point agenda. The meeting included deliberations on imposing restrictions on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), initiating Article 6 proceedings against former President Arif Alvi, PTI’s founding chairman Imran Khan, and Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri.
The agenda also covered the summary for visa-free entry of foreign investors, issues related to Special Courts under the Anti-Terrorism Act, and approval of the appointment of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of abandoned properties between Pakistan and Denmark. Additionally, a proposal to increase the number of members in the Election Commission was presented.
Recently, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, announced in a press conference in Islamabad that the federal government has decided to impose restrictions on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He stated that Article 6 cases will be pursued against Arif Alvi, Imran Khan, and Qasim Suri, and after approval from the federal cabinet, references will be sent to the Supreme Court. Their passports and identity cards will be blocked, parliamentary resolutions will be sought, and legal actions will be pursued within the ambit of the constitution and law.
The federal cabinet’s decisions are expected to have significant implications on the political landscape, stirring further debate and legal processes in the days ahead.
