FBR U-turn: Allowance for Bringing Multiple Mobile Phones from Abroad Restored
Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has revoked its notification imposing restrictions on bringing more than one mobile phone under the Baggage Scheme. According to media reports, consultations on the Baggage Scheme are still ongoing, and the notification issued a day earlier has now been cancelled. A final notification will be issued after the completion of these consultations.
Under the Customs Baggage Rules 2006, travelers arriving from abroad are still allowed to bring up to two mobile phones. FBR has also lifted the ban on bringing commercial goods worth over $1,200. A final decision on proposed amendments to the rules will be made after further consultations.
It is worth noting that just a day earlier, FBR had issued a notification revising the Baggage Scheme, which included a full ban on bringing commercial goods and allowed only one mobile phone for personal use to be brought into the country.
