FBR Imposes Ban on Bringing Goods Worth Over $1200 for Passengers Coming from Abroad

Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to impose restrictions on passengers arriving in Pakistan from abroad, prohibiting them from bringing goods exceeding a value of $1200 under the baggage scheme. Goods exceeding this amount will be considered as part of commercial trading.
According to reports, FBR has drafted amendments to the Baggage Rules 2006, which have been sent to stakeholders for feedback. Suggestions and comments can be submitted within seven days, after which any proposals received after the deadline will not be considered. If no feedback is received within the stipulated time, the proposed rules will be enforced through a Gazette notification.
Under the revised rules, passengers arriving in Pakistan will only be allowed to bring a single mobile phone for personal use. Any additional phones will be confiscated, as per the new provisions.
Furthermore, passengers bringing goods valued over $1200 will not be able to clear their items until the due duties, taxes, and penalties are paid. The new regulations aim to curb the import of commercial quantities of goods under the guise of personal baggage.
