Chiniot: Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the head of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), stated that his party is firmly in opposition and has no intention of joining the government. Speaking to media representatives at the Khatm-e-Nabuwwat Conference in Chanab Nagar, he addressed concerns over the 26th Constitutional Amendment, asserting that it will not create a constitutional crisis.
Rehman emphasized that the amendment introduces a significant parliamentary role and warned of strong reactions to any decisions perceived as biased. He expressed confidence that future judiciary actions would not lead to controversy, and he urged support for the new Chief Justice in delivering justice to the nation.
The JUI-F leader highlighted his role in removing controversial clauses from the 26th Amendment and acknowledged the challenges of introducing the 27th Amendment. He welcomed the new Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, commending his tenure as non-controversial and effective.
Furthermore, Rehman reiterated that governments should not engage in protests or interference with them, asserting that while protests are a fundamental right, conflicts between provinces and the federation are inappropriate.
He refrained from commenting on Sheikh Rashid’s remarks about “Gate Number 4” and noted that judicial relief had been granted to women, including Bushra Bibi. Rehman also mentioned that the Supreme Court has provided a deadline until December 31, 2027, for the elimination of interest-based financial practices.
