Farooq Sattar Accuses Sindh Government of Destroying Karachi’s Education System, Compares it to Genghis Khan’s Tactics

Karachi: Senior MQM Pakistan leader Dr. Farooq Sattar has accused the Sindh government of deliberately sabotaging the educational boards in Karachi, claiming that students from the city are being unfairly failed while those from interior Sindh are being awarded higher grades. He made these remarks during a press conference at the Bahadurabad center.
Dr. Sattar criticized the provincial government for its alleged corruption and poor governance, stating that the current situation in Sindh mirrors the tactics of Genghis Khan, who set fire to educational institutions and enslaved people after conquering Baghdad. He claimed that Sindh’s rulers are following the same approach by undermining Karachi’s education system to consolidate power.
The MQM leader pointed out that since 1973, the quota system has been in place, and while students from interior Sindh are being empowered, those from urban Sindh, especially Karachi, are being deliberately disadvantaged. He argued that the feudal lords and landlords are growing stronger, and now they are targeting Karachi’s educational institutions to further their agenda.
Dr. Sattar highlighted that students in Karachi’s pre-medical stream have a success rate of only 33%, while 67% of students are failing. He further claimed that the results of Karachi’s matriculation and intermediate boards are being manipulated, with students from interior Sindh awarded A-1 grades while Karachi students are being marked as failed. He warned that if this system continues, universities should be shut down, and teachers should be dismissed.
He also demanded the formation of a committee consisting of competent teachers for the scrutiny of Karachi’s exam results, accusing the authorities of turning the process of scrutiny and supplementary exams into a profit-making venture.
Dr. Sattar took aim at Sindh’s Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and the Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences, urging for the VC’s suspension. He pointed out that in the MD CAT exams, only 10% of Karachi students are topping, while the rest are failing. He also claimed that the Chairman of the Intermediate Board was removed for traveling to the UK without informing the relevant authorities, and criticized the politicization of the examination board.
Referring to the overall state of education in Sindh, Dr. Sattar noted that the province is lagging behind Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in education, with the latter two regions making significant progress. He criticized both Murad Ali Shah and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for their focus on federal issues while failing to address the deteriorating conditions in their own province, particularly in Karachi. He mentioned the severe power shortages in the city, where electricity is unavailable for up to 16 hours a day, along with the growing issue of street crimes, resulting in the deaths of many young people.
Dr. Sattar’s statements reflect the growing frustration in Karachi with the perceived neglect and mismanagement by the Sindh government, particularly regarding the educational sector.
