Experts Warn Against Using Free VPNs Due to Data Privacy Risks

IslamabadضCybercrime experts are advising users to avoid using free VPNs available on the internet, as these services can pose significant data privacy risks. According to a report by *Samaa*, experts have raised concerns about the potential for data theft when using free VPN services, which may compromise users’ personal information.
Deputy Director of Cyber Crimes, Waqas Saeed, explained that while free VPNs have both positive and negative aspects, the risks associated with them are considerable. He highlighted that free VPN providers often request access to users’ data, which could lead to data breaches.
He further pointed out that cybercriminals may believe they can evade detection by using a VPN, but in reality, VPN companies often cooperate with law enforcement agencies like the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). These companies can provide records that reveal which device was connected through the VPN, and in some cases, individuals have been traced back through these logs.
Experts stress the importance of using trusted, paid VPN services to ensure better security and privacy for online activities, especially to avoid falling victim to potential cybercrimes.
