Islamabad: Former Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Imran Khan, Azam Khan, has provided a recorded statement in the £190 million reference, revealing that Shahzad Akbar had handed over a confidential file to him to seek Cabinet approval.
Azam Khan stated, “I served as the PM’s secretary from August 2018 until the next 22 months. Prince Akbar brought me a handwritten note, bearing his signature, requesting Cabinet approval.” He further explained that Shahzad Akbar informed him that the Prime Minister had instructed to present this confidential matter in the Cabinet.
“Upon Shahzad Akbar’s instruction, I referred the file to the Cabinet Secretary so that it could be presented before the Cabinet,” Azam Khan added. However, he did not attend the Cabinet meeting due to a ‘camera conference’ being held.
During Azam Khan’s statement, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) also submitted a statement taken during their investigation to the court. Azam Khan remarked upon seeing it, “The signatures on it are mine.”
This development unfolds amidst ongoing legal proceedings concerning the substantial financial reference involving Shahzad Akbar and others.
