Electricity Prices Likely to Decrease by Rs 2 per Unit in Pakistan

There is a possibility of a reduction in electricity prices by up to Rs 2 per unit in Pakistan. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for the monthly fuel price adjustment for January.
It is expected that NEPRA will approve the reduction of electricity prices by Rs 2 per unit. NEPRA officials will hear the CPPA’s request on February 27, after which a final decision regarding the price reduction will be made.
According to the request, a total of 7.81 billion electricity units were sold in January. Hydropower contributed 10.63% and local coal contributed 15.56% to the electricity generation. During January 2025, imported coal accounted for 8.53% of the electricity generation, while furnace oil accounted for 1.33%, and RLNG contributed 18.92% to electricity production.
The expected price reduction would be welcomed by consumers across the country, offering some relief amidst rising electricity costs.
