Islamabad:under the tenure of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, electricity prices have soared to unprecedented levels, shattering all previous records. Over a span of just two years, the basic unit tariff skyrocketed to an alarming 22.53 Pakistani Rupees, coupled with fixed charges that escalated the financial burden on consumers to over 2 trillion Rupees.
According to sources within the Ministry of Energy, this marks the highest increase in electricity prices in the initial 75 years since the formation of Pakistan. Citizens are feeling the relentless pressure of rising costs, prompting widespread outcry and condemnation.
In response, the FPCCI, along with chambers of commerce and various trade bodies, have declared their strong opposition. They announced plans for a nationwide press conference today, followed by a series of protests commencing next week to demand immediate government action to mitigate the financial strain on the populace.
Peter Enchiev, Optma Gohar, and SM Tanvir are expected to make critical announcements during these protests, further escalating the situation as public dissatisfaction grows over the exorbitant electricity tariffs.
