Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Irfan Siddiqui has expressed distress over the increasingly heavy electricity bills, stating that even he finds it impossible to pay them. In an interview on a private TV morning show, Siddiqui voiced concerns over the challenges of meeting electricity bill payments.
When asked about public distress due to high electricity bills and whether the government fears potential protests, Siddiqui remarked that when people take to the streets on any issue, they become an unstoppable force that neither the government nor coercion can deter. He emphasized that people are well aware of who is responsible for the current state of affairs in the country.
Addressing the severity of the electricity billing issue, Siddiqui acknowledged its significant impact and noted that both the PML-N and the PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) are responsible for addressing this situation through their daily statements and actions. He also mentioned that Nawaz Sharif is troubled by the current situation and has advised the government to consider providing relief through solar panels.
Siddiqui further highlighted the narrative that while the PML-N left Pakistan in 2017, it did not abandon it; instead, the problems have intensified since then. He commented on PTI’s political strategies, starting from sit-ins to long marches, and concluded that public protests cannot be stopped by governments, although the circumstances do not currently warrant such actions.
This statement by Siddiqui underscores the ongoing challenges faced by Pakistani citizens regarding electricity bills, echoing widespread concerns across the nation.
