Electric Board Sends Wrong Billion-Rupee Bill to Himachal Pradesh Resident

Mumbai:In a shocking incident, the Electric Board in India has mistakenly sent a bill amounting to over 2 billion rupees to a citizen in Himachal Pradesh, following a previous case where a tailor received an inflated bill of over 8.6 million rupees.

According to reports from Indian media, the resident, Lalit Dhiman, who lives in the village of Bhiran Jattan in Himachal Pradesh, was sent a bill of ₹2,104,208,405 for electricity consumption for December of the previous year. Lalit Dhiman, understandably, was stunned when he received the bill.

He explained that in November, he had been sent an electricity bill of ₹2,500, which he had promptly paid. However, in December, the shocking amount of over 2 billion rupees appeared in his account. Alarmed, he filed a complaint with the Electric Board, which attributed the mistake to a system error.

Following his complaint, the Electric Board revised the bill to ₹4,047, which Dhiman duly paid.

This is not the first instance of erroneous billing. Earlier, a tailor in Gujarat was mistakenly sent a bill exceeding ₹8.6 million. After raising his concerns, the Electric Board corrected the bill, reducing it to ₹1,540, which the tailor then paid, relieved to have the issue resolved.

Such mistakes by the Electric Board have caused significant distress to consumers, with many hoping for stricter checks and controls to prevent similar errors in the future.
