Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch Warns Against Large-Scale Military Operation in Balochistan
Quetta:Former Chief Minister of Balochistan, Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch, has expressed concerns over the proposed large-scale military operation in Balochistan, warning that it could exacerbate the ongoing issues in the province. In an interview with a U.S. broadcasting network, Dr. Baloch emphasized that military operations are already underway in the region, and an escalation could further fuel resentment and increase the likelihood of irregularities during the operation.
Dr. Baloch argued that if the government genuinely seeks a long-term solution to the Balochistan issue, it must look beyond the military approach. “The province faces critical challenges, including missing persons, high unemployment, and governance issues. The government should focus on addressing these problems rather than relying solely on military force,” he stated.
He criticized the ongoing military campaigns, pointing out that despite 22 years of operations, the situation has only worsened. “Has there been any improvement in the last two decades? Conditions are deteriorating, and people’s grievances continue to grow,” he added. Dr. Baloch also raised concerns about the potential for innocent casualties in the proposed military action, which he believes could result in further unrest.
Dr. Baloch concluded by calling for the involvement of the province’s genuine leadership in the resolution process, urging the government to trust and work with them to find a peaceful and sustainable solution for Balochistan.
