Donkey Breeding and Slaughterhouse Discussion in National Assembly Committee Meeting

Quetta:The issue of donkey breeding was discussed during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Food Security. Officials from the Ministry of Food Security and Research informed the committee that a donkey slaughterhouse has been established in Gwadar, and production has already commenced.

The ministry representatives also revealed that an agreement has been made with China regarding the export of donkey hides and bones. A Chinese company will handle this process in Gwadar. When the Chairman of the Standing Committee inquired why live donkeys are not being exported to China, the officials explained that the export of live donkeys is a challenging task. They also mentioned that requests have been received from other parts of the country for donkey slaughterhouses.

The officials further informed the committee that discussions are ongoing with new Chinese companies about establishing slaughterhouses for donkeys. Committee member Rana Muhammad Hayat emphasized that the use of donkeys in Pakistan is decreasing, with loader rickshaws taking their place. He suggested that the breeding of quality donkeys should be encouraged.
