Donald Trump Pushes for Constitutional Amendment to Serve Third Term as U.S. President

Washington:Former U.S. President Donald Trump has initiated efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution to allow him to run for a third term. The proposal was introduced in Congress by Representative Andy Ogles.

According to the proposed amendment, an individual would be allowed to serve as president for a maximum of three terms. However, certain conditions have been outlined, such as prohibiting someone who has already served two consecutive terms as president from assuming a third term. Additionally, any acting or interim president who has served more than two years in office would also be restricted to serving only two terms.

This proposal directly contradicts the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which limits a president to two terms in office. Under the current constitutional guidelines, no president can serve more than two terms, nor can they run for re-election after their second term.

Representative Ogles, who introduced the amendment, stated that Donald Trump has proven himself as a revolutionary figure and possesses the ability to make America great again. He further emphasized that Trump should be given the time necessary to fulfill his vision.

For the proposed amendment to pass, it would need to secure a two-thirds majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, or be approved through a constitutional convention initiated by two-thirds of state legislatures. Additionally, three-fourths of U.S. states would need to ratify the amendment. Currently, Republicans do not hold a two-thirds majority in the Senate, which makes the approval process uncertain.
