DG ISPR Addresses Iranian Oil Smuggling and Border Security Issues
Islambad:In a recent press conference, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif, the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), addressed concerns regarding oil smuggling from Iran and border security issues. General Sharif clarified that the permits for oil coming from Iran are not issued by the military or the Frontier Corps (FC). He emphasized the government’s efforts to minimize oil smuggling from Iran.
General Sharif highlighted the economic challenges faced by communities in border areas of Balochistan, where limited basic amenities and employment opportunities make locals reliant on trade with Iran. He warned that a complete closure of the Iranian border could potentially incite anti-military sentiment among smuggling mafias.
He also stressed that it is not accurate to say that smuggling continues despite border fencing solely due to military involvement. According to him, border security is a mutual responsibility that requires cooperation from both sides of the border.
