Dengue Outbreak Claims Lives of Two Young Children in Hub Amidst Health Infrastructure Shortcomings

Hub:the dengue outbreak has tragically claimed the lives of two young children over the past two days. The victims, Ahmed Munir Bugti and Areeba, aged between 8 and 10 years, succumbed to severe dengue fever. They were initially taken to a local hospital in Hub but were referred to Karachi due to inadequate medical facilities. Unfortunately, both children passed away despite being treated at two different hospitals in Karachi, where they were confirmed to be suffering from dengue virus and critically low white blood cell counts.

The situation has been exacerbated by recent heavy rains, which have led to water accumulating in low-lying areas, creating breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Despite previous reports highlighting these issues, neither the Hub administration nor the health department has taken effective measures. The municipal corporation has not implemented any drainage solutions, and there has been no significant effort to conduct anti-mosquito spraying.

Currently, malaria and dengue fever are rapidly spreading in Hub and its surrounding areas. Private hospitals in the city are reporting numerous cases of these diseases, underscoring the urgent need for a coordinated response to address the public health crisis.
