Kamala Harris, the Democratic frontrunner for the presidential race, has ramped up efforts to secure support from Arab-American voters in pivotal U.S. states. Harris’ electoral strategy hinges on winning in Michigan, where the largest Arab-American population resides.
Mayor Abdullah Hamood of Dearborn City emphasized that Harris must solidify the coalition that emerged at the start of the Biden administration. He urged Harris to strongly advocate for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and to halt unconditional support and arms sales to Israel.
The Arab community further voiced concerns against nominating Pennsylvania’s Jewish Governor Josh Shapiro as Harris’ vice-presidential candidate, citing his staunch opposition to Palestinian protesters.
Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, a Palestinian-American representative with ties to Michigan, also weighed in on the matter.
