Islamabad:In a recent interview on Geo News’ program “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Ke Sath,” Defense Minister Khawaja Asif expressed his strong criticism of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan. Asif dismissed Khan’s belief that a change in leadership at the Supreme Court could lead to his return to power, labeling it a “fantastical notion.”
Asif accused the PTI leadership of failing to advance the educational sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, alleging that instead of establishing new universities, the provincial government has been selling off land designated for educational institutions. He also criticized Khan’s tenure for allegedly resettling terrorists and leading the country towards bankruptcy, mentioning that letters were sent to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) during Khan’s government.
Furthermore, Asif denounced the PTI’s approach to political disputes, claiming that their strategy involves making bold statements to intimidate opponents, only to later shift towards negotiations if initial tactics fail.
In a significant revelation, Asif disclosed a meeting from April 2019, where General Faiz Hameed reportedly visited the residence of General Bajwa’s father-in-law to discuss the extension of General Bajwa’s term. According to Asif, he had suggested that if they were dissatisfied with Khan, they should secure the Punjab government by June and take over the federal government by December.
