Defence Minister Khawaja Asif Accuses PTI of “Betraying National Interests for Personal Gains
Islamabad:Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has strongly criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), accusing its leadership of betraying national interests for personal and political gains.
In a statement issued recently, Khawaja Asif stated that PTI leaders were undermining the interests of overseas Pakistanis by pursuing actions that were against the country’s welfare. He added that those working against the interests of the nation would eventually have to pay the price for their actions.
**Allegations Against Bushra Bibi**
Khawaja Asif further raised questions regarding PTI’s leader, Bushra Bibi, suggesting that her actions might have been questionable. He remarked, “PTI should investigate whether Bushra Bibi is involved in any sort of underhanded dealings. There is no harm in checking this matter thoroughly.”
He also emphasized that the government should be grateful to Bushra Bibi, stating that her insistence led to PTI’s protesters from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) launching an attack on Islamabad’s D-Chowk, in defiance of PTI’s founder, Imran Khan’s, approval. According to Asif, the protesters left behind banners, vehicles, and even photographs of Imran Khan before fleeing the scene.
**Impact of PTI’s Protests on Islamabad**
The Defence Minister suggested that had PTI’s protesters sat peacefully at the protest site, as was initially agreed upon by Imran Khan and his party leadership, the situation would have been very different. He said that the capital would have been paralyzed with roads blocked, internet services disrupted, and it would have been difficult for people to travel to Islamabad’s airport. He further warned that the risk of another attack on D-Chowk would still be looming.
**Political and National Interests at Stake**
Khawaja Asif’s remarks come at a time when PTI’s political actions and their consequences are being heavily scrutinized. Government officials have expressed concerns about PTI’s approach to governance and national stability, questioning their methods and objectives.
This latest criticism from Khawaja Asif adds to the growing tension between the ruling government and PTI, particularly regarding their protests and the party’s leadership. The comments also shed light on the increasing political divide in the country and the ongoing debate about the future of PTI’s role in Pakistan’s political landscape.
