Crackdown on Electricity Thieves and Defaulters: 636 FIRs Registered, 6,960 Applications Filed in Quetta

Quetta:The authorities in Quetta have intensified operations against electricity thieves and defaulters across several districts, including Pishin, Loralai, Sibi, Khuzdar, and Makran, according to a spokesperson of Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO).

Legal actions have been initiated against electricity thieves, with a total of 6,960 applications filed at various police stations in the province for legal proceedings. So far, 636 FIRs have been registered against electricity thieves in different police stations, the spokesperson confirmed.

During the ongoing crackdown, QESCO has inspected and scrutinized 27,486 residential connections, 9,000 commercial connections, and 2,588 agricultural connections, along with 579 industrial connections, to verify meter readings and detect any irregularities.

As a result of these efforts, electricity thieves have been fined under special drives, amounting to approximately Rs. 70 crore 29 lakh. The spokesperson highlighted that a total of about Rs. 65 crore 90 lakh 32 thousand has been recovered in fines from electricity thieves and defaulters so far.

The crackdown on electricity theft and defaulters continues as part of efforts to ensure fair electricity distribution and curb financial losses incurred by QESCO due to illegal connections and power theft.

Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with QESCO in identifying and reporting instances of electricity theft to ensure equitable distribution of electricity and to discourage such illegal activities in the region.
