Court Issues Notice to Islamabad Police Over Alleged Illegal Detention of Sadaqat Abbasi, Seeks Response

Islamabad: A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court seeking the release of former Member of National Assembly Sadaqat Abbasi, alleging his unlawful detention. The court has issued a notice to the Islamabad police, asking them to submit a response. DSP Legal Sajad Cheema requested the court for time until the following day to provide a reply.
The petition was filed by Sadaqat Abbasi’s brother, Usman Abbasi, with the Ministry of Interior Secretary, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, the Chief Commissioner, and others named as respondents. The petitioners were represented in court by lawyers Ansar Kiyani and Saqib Abbasi.
It is pertinent to note that Sadaqat Abbasi, a former leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was arrested by Islamabad police on November 24. He was apprehended near Faizabad Interchange and taken away in a police van. Abbasi claimed that he had no connection to any protest and was merely heading home at the time of his arrest.
Sadaqat Abbasi had announced his resignation from both PTI and politics last year.
