Cooking Oil and Ghee Prices Surge by Up to 100 Rupees in Just Two Weeks

Lahore: The price hike of ghee and cooking oil continues in the open market, with the third increase in just two weeks. In the latest round of price hikes, the cost of cooking oil and ghee has risen once again, putting further strain on consumers, especially the lower-income segment.
The price of the 5 kg pack of first-grade ghee and cooking oil has increased by up to 100 rupees, while the price of a 12 kg pack of second-grade cooking oil has gone up by 85 rupees and ghee by 50 rupees. As a result, the cost of the 12 kg pack of second-grade cooking oil now stands at between 5,835 and 6,020 rupees, and the 12 kg ghee pack has increased to 5,850 to 5,906 rupees.
In retail, second-grade cooking oil is now priced between 510 to 515 rupees per kg, and second-grade ghee is available for 500 to 502 rupees per kg. Meanwhile, the 5 kg pack of first-grade ghee and oil has been marked up by 100 rupees, now costing between 2,675 to 2,775 rupees. The wholesale price of first-grade ghee is 555 rupees per kg, with retail prices ranging between 565 rupees per kg.
The continuous rise in prices has left many people, particularly from lower-income groups, struggling to cope with the increased costs of essential food items.
