Controversial Waqf Amendment Bill Presented in Rajya Sabha After Lok Sabha Approval

New Delhi:The controversial Waqf Amendment Bill, which was approved by the Indian Lok Sabha yesterday, has now been presented in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament.
The bill, presented by the government, faced strong opposition from Congress members in the Lok Sabha. Reports indicate that the bill has now been introduced in the Rajya Sabha, where it requires the support of 119 members out of 236 to pass.
Meanwhile, after Congress, the hardline Hindu organization Shiv Sena has also voiced strong opposition to the bill. Sanjay Raut, a member of the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra for Shiv Sena, criticized the Modi government, stating that the government is showing more concern for Muslims than perhaps even Muhammad Ali Jinnah did.
Raut further questioned the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) stance, saying that the BJP, which often labels Muslims as terrorists and traitors, now claims it will sell Waqf properties to fund Muslim girls’ marriages, calling it nothing but deceit. The bill continues to stir political controversy and opposition in India.
