Contractors Providing Groundwater to Industrial Areas Form Association in Karachi

Karachi: Contractors supplying groundwater to industrial areas in Karachi have formed an association named the Ground Water Operators Association. The association will represent all industrial areas, including SITE and SITE Super Highway.
Liakhat Ali Khan has been elected as the president, and Owais Iqbal as the general secretary of the new body. The association was formed after Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) issued licenses to contractors last month, prompting them to establish a collective organization to protect their legal rights. The association was officially announced even before the process of license cancellation could take place. Several contractors, including those whose licenses were recently revoked by the KW&SC, are part of the newly formed association.
To date, more than two dozen stakeholders have joined the Ground Water Operators Association. The body aims to maintain continuous groundwater supply to industrial areas by liaising with government and non-government institutions, including Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, K-Electric, police, Rangers, and various industrial associations.
