Gwadar:Pakistan has initiated the construction of a slaughterhouse in Gwadar to export donkey meat to China, a move expected to provide employment to approximately one thousand local residents. The decision was approved during a session of the Senate Standing Committee on Commerce held on January 18, where permission was granted to establish a slaughterhouse in the Gwadar zone specifically for slaughtering donkeys and exporting their meat to China.
During the committee meeting, it was briefed that the plan involves establishing breeding farms for donkeys across all four provinces, with research farms to support production. The slaughterhouse for donkey meat will exclusively operate within the Gwadar Free Economic Zone, directly exporting meat to China. This decision aims to prevent the inclusion of donkey meat in Pakistan’s food chain.
It should be noted that according to statistics, the population of donkeys in Pakistan has been steadily increasing, reaching 5.8 million by June 2023.
